making the small print simple
Last updated: September 2025
This isn’t about rules for the sake of rules — it’s about creating a shared understanding that helps us work safely, clearly, and supportively from the very beginning. These points highlight how therapy runs at Safe Spaces, and why they matter for both of us.
This page explains the Safe Spaces Therapy Online contract in clear, simple terms. It highlights the key points — from confidentiality to payment — and shows how each part is designed to support your wellbeing. If you’d like the full detail, you can read the full contract here.
You can read through everything below, or jump straight to what matters most for you:
Why the contract matters
The contract sets the boundaries that keep our work safe, supportive, and professional. It’s not there to catch you out — it’s there to make sure you know what to expect, and to give you confidence about how I work and ensure safety and clarity for us both.
Key Points
Your Personal Information
I ask for only essential details (name, date of birth, contact info, GP) so I can communicate effectively and act swiftly in an emergency.
Why this matters for you: These details are kept confidential and secure.
Confidentiality & Record Keeping
Sessions are private, with confidentiality maintained except in rare cases (serious risk of harm, safeguarding, or legal obligations). Notes are minimal and securely stored for seven years before being deleted.
Why this matters for you: Confidentiality is balanced with safety, so your privacy is protected while I meet professional standards.
Session Structure
Sessions last 50 minutes and are usually weekly via Zoom. We review every 6 sessions to check in on progress and needs.
Why this matters for you: A consistent structure builds safety, clarity, and effective therapy.
Fees & Payment
£65 per session, payable 48 hours before. Appointments are confirmed once payment is received, at which point you’ll also receive the meeting link.
Block of 6 at a reduced rate, valid 3 months, non-refundable (extensions may be possible in exceptional cases).
Why this matters for you: Clear payment terms avoid misunderstandings and allow flexibility.
Cancellations, Lateness & Fitness to Engage
48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule; late cancellations are charged in full. Sessions finish on time, and if you are more than 10 minutes late without contact, it counts as a missed session. To get the most from therapy, it’s also important that you’re in a fit state to engage. If you arrive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or simply too overwhelmed to make use of the session, we may need to pause, keep things brief, or use the time for support instead.
Why this matters for you: This ensures therapy time is meaningful and safe, while keeping boundaries clear.
Safety & Emergency Protocols
If I believe you are at significant risk and cannot reach you, I may contact your GP or emergency contact. This only happens in exceptional circumstances.
Why this matters for you: It ensures your safety is prioritised even outside the session.
Equality & Professional Boundaries
I provide therapy without discrimination and work inclusively with people of all genders, sexualities, races, faiths, and abilities. To protect boundaries, I don’t connect via social media or text outside sessions — contact is by email only.
Why this matters for you: Professional boundaries protect confidentiality, focus, and trust.
We both have them, and it’s good to set expectations in the beginning, and reinforce them if needed.
Boundaries aren’t barriers — they’re what make therapy a safe and respectful space for growth.
Records & Data (GDPR)
I keep only minimal notes and essential contact details, stored securely on an encrypted drive for five years before being permanently deleted.
Why this matters for you: Your privacy is protected while meeting professional and legal standards.
Supervision
My work is supported by regular clinical supervision, where material is anonymised. This helps maintain the quality and safety of the therapy I provide.
Why this matters for you: You benefit from added oversight and professional reflection, without your identity being shared.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with any aspect of our work, please let me know. If it cannot be resolved, you can also contact NCPS.
Why this matters for you: You always have a clear path if concerns arise.
Crisis Support
I cannot provide emergency support outside sessions. In an immediate crisis, please contact:
999 (emergency services)
A&E / NHS Mental Health Crisis Team
Your GP
Samaritans (116 123, free, 24/7)
Why this matters for you: In a crisis, these services can respond straight away. Having the right support at the right time helps keep you safe until we can meet again.
Final Note
This summary is designed to make the contract easier to digest. Please also complete and return your Client Contact Form and Initial Therapy Form at least 48 hours before your first session.
